Sport Management - Essay Example So when he plays the game, supported by his performance, is the behavior which results in him scoring a basket or not. Then the outcome of the scoring is the consequence which makes him happy. His happiness is his satisfaction, which gives him inner peace. Other congratulate him and he is proud of himself for which he is given the feedback of performing in the same spirit again. (Lussier et al., 2008) As far as sports are concerned, the best motivation tool for a sports man is self-interest. Without that hardly any sportsman succeeds to keep moving in the long run. Sports are a passion for most, but dies with time due to physical exhaustion and other de-motivating factors. But when the tool of self-interest steps in which asks them the basic question of ââ¬Ëwhat is in it for meââ¬â¢, they reconsider. This is one of the basic and most important aspects of motivation which means creating win win situations. Expectations also play a vital role for a sportsman. If he/she is confident, optimistic and positive about his role and performance in a game, he/she is most likely to be motivated within him. Such a person would perform in his best capacity expecting productive outcomes for him and his team. (Peak Performance, 2011) A study by Pat Riley, the current coach of Miami Heat and ex-coach of New York Knicks, showed a simple method on how a failure can be turned into a success and how to motivate sportsmen in his book ââ¬ËThe Winner Withinââ¬â¢. An important and easy way to motivate any sportsman can be convincing him to watch his own success performance. Recording the success in sport and then watching it again will motivate him to improve further in his game. If he realized a mistake he will try to avoid it in the next game and turn it around for a greater performance. (Riley, 2007) Motivation can be intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic is more from within one and the goals are smart,
The Juxtaposition of Violence and Comedy Movie Review
The Juxtaposition of Violence and Comedy - Movie Review Example 48), where increasingly vicious deeds lead to destruction. From the opening scene where the vengeful Vindice comes out carrying his dead lover's skull to the end with its official yet instant hangings, a hyper-violent environment is created. This pseudo-reality is so removed from the regularities of the everyday that the outrageousness of the violence opens it to comic possibilities. For this reason, The Revenger's Tragedy provides a useful comparison to certain scenes of director Quentin Tarantino, well known for the brutal yet humorous realms his films, including Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill: Vol. 1. Mr. Blonde stands before the uniformed and badly beaten police officer who is tied to a chair. Except for an unconscious man bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound, they are alone in a large, industrial room. After informing his prisoner that he is going to torture him for the simply enjoyment of it, he gags him with electrical tape, takes a folding straight-razor from his black cowboy boot and turns on the radio. After briefly inspecting the collapsed man's wound, Mr. Blonde obviously cheers as the 1970's classic Stuck in the Middle with You begins to play. He then begins a shuffling line dance as he softly sings along, and the terrified hostage stares and bleeds. Once Mr. Once Mr. Blonde reaches the police officer, he slashes him and then straddles his victim, sawing at the left side of his head as the camera pans out of view. Muffled moans and demands to be still merge as the act continues. Emerging with a bloody ear in one hand and the razor in the other, Mr. Blonde enters the frame asking, "Was that as good for you as it was for me' After playing with the ear briefly, Mr. Blonde throws it to the ground, wipes his fingers on the officer's uniform and goes outside to his car. This famous ear cutting scene from Reservoir Dogs manages to be comic despite the graphic violence. The Revenger's Tragedy features a similar combination of dance and violence, although it is an act of vengeance as opposed to the random inclination of a sociopath. After killing the Duke, Vindice acquires three accomplices and plans to murder the successor and three members of his entourage at a masked ball. He eagerly describes his plan: Within a straine or two we shall find leasure To steale our swords out handsomely; And when they thinke their pleasure sweete and good, In the midst of all their joyes, they shall sigh blood. (5.3.18-22) So the killers join the festivities and, as the production notes specify, dance up to the table, quickly loosen their swords and strike their victims. In the midst of the revelry no one notices until the death moans are heard. Mixing the exotic pleasure of a civilized masque and the painful deaths of for nobles is a brazen act. As this takes place towards the end of the play, the audience has become climatized to an abnormal level of viciousness (Champion, 1977, p. 100). It is not only the feigned participation that is laughable-this introduction to violence allows the actual violence to be seen in a more jovial light. This effect is also evident in the combination of Mr. Blonde's dancing and ear hacking-the ridiculousness of the entire situation elevates even the violent aspects to the

Corrections and Prisons Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Corrections and Prisons - Essay Example The court system in the United States is divided into the federal governments and the state governments which are administratively different from each other (Miller & Gaines, 2012). The courts act independent of the legislature and the executive; it is a semiautonomous branch of the government. The federal court system vests power on one Supreme Court and all the other courts remain inferior to the Supreme Court. Federal courts are divided into three levels; the federal district courts, the courts of appeal which is more superior to the district courts and Supreme Court which is the highest federal court. Miller & Gaines (2012) cited that, the federal district courts are made up of 92 districts with at least one bench in each of the available 50 states, one each in the Columbia District and Puerto Rico. There are judges in each of the districts ranging from 1 to 20 judges. District court judges are appointed by the president recommended by the members of the senate and confirmed by t he senate. District federal courts are charged with the responsibility of solving cases like violations of the constitution and other federal laws, cases that directly involve the federal government, maritime disputes, foreign government cases, and cases involving citizens from foreign countries or of two different states (Miller & Gaines, 2012). The court of appeal system consists of 11 judicial circuits in the 50 states and one in the Columbia District. ... and is the only federal court that is mandated by the constitution to give a final jurisdiction on all the cases that come before it. It consists of one Chief Justice and 8 Associate Justices. In addition, it has jurisdiction on cases that involve two or more U.S. states and high ranking diplomatic staff. Judges in the three main federal courts serve for life (Miller & Gaines, 2012). The federal judiciary also watches over a group of courts that handle specialized and specific cases. For example, the Court of Federal Claims that looks into cases of monetary claims alleged against the U.S. government. There are also the Courts- Martial that handles cases that involve the military personnel under the Military Law and the Tax Court (Miller & Gaines, 2012). State court systems are diverse having a hierarchically organized system that encompasses general and specialized courts. It comprises of inferior courts like the magistrates court, justice of peace court, municipal court, traffic cou rt, municipal court, police court and the county court which handle minor criminal and civil cases in mostly an informal manner (Miller & Gaines, 2012). Serious and superior cases are heard in the state district court mostly known as the superior court. Superior courts hear appeals from minor courts and are organized by counties; they have jurisdiction over major civil suits and serious crimes like grand larceny. Large cities like New York have appellate courts between the superior courts and the states highest courts. Courts with special purposes under the state courts include probate court, family court, divorce courts, juvenile courts, small claims courts and housing courts. Judges in these courts may be elected or appointed. When appointed, the judges

Business Structure Advice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Business Structure Advice - Essay Example Companies are large corporations with a huge composition of members and partners. They have complex legal requirements and not suitable first time ventures. In addition, their creation requires large financial resources and is exposed to numerous business risks (Besley & Brigham, 2008). This makes it a bad business venture for an amateur business creation. Sole proprietorships are less complex corporations. Their formation requires only the existence of the owner. In this form of business, the owner may receive aid from family members. This form of business is preferred for a first venture if the owner has enough resources or can receive financial aid enough to create a business venture (Besley & Brigham, 2008). In regards to taxation, a sole proprietorship is only taxed on the business venture. A personââ¬â¢s personal properties are not liable for taxation. However, the business venture is mandated to pay an annual tax for its operations (Besley & Brigham, 2008). Partnerships, on the other hand, are business ventures created with the collaboration of two or more persons. They are referred to as partners. They are easy to create as a person may seek a partnership from a person or persons who share similar business incentives (Besley & Brigham, 2008). The main advantage of this business form is that the capital contribution is shared among partners. In addition, operations are divided among the partners. This makes it easy to operate. In a situation where a person lacks enough capital and business knowledge, a partnership is the most appropriate business venture (Besley & Brigham, 2008). Taxation in partnerships is only liable on the business. However, the tax to be paid by the business is shared among the partners. In addition, personal properties are not taxed on the behalf of the business. In regards to capital generation, a business may have numerous options to consider. One possible way of capital

Laboratory Report of an experiment on Optical Fibre Transmission Lab
Laboratory of an experiment on Optical Fibre Transmission - Lab Report Example Optical fibre is popular as a global means of telecommunication. The study of the signal generation and wavelength regulation in fibre optic systems is vital in the design and improvement of systems by optimizing the configuration properties. Fibre Optic communication system uses the physical principle of light reflection. As light travels through various media, depending on the density of the medium, the light goes through total internal reflection. This takes place when light is propagated inside a transmission medium with a greater optical density than that of the medium outside. This property depends on the difference of the speed of light inside various mediums. The ratio of the speeds between the mediums and the speed of light in a vacuum is referred to as the refractive index of that specific material or the medium. In this model, N1 is the refractive index of material 1 and N2 is the refractive index of material 2 which the light passes through. Angle à ¸1 represents the angle of incident while à ¸2 represents the angle of refraction in the boundary between the two light transmitting materials. When light moves from a medium with a higher refractive index than that of a lower refractive index, the angle of refraction can be shown to be 90à º at critical angle à ¸c. This is represented in the model below. Above the incident angle, in the boundary between the materials of higher refractive index and that of low refractive index, there is a total internal reflection of the light. Therefore, the fibre is made as thin as possible to maximize the size of the incident angle and ensure that it is always higher than the critical angle. Even though it is possible to direct the inside an optical fibre, it is vital to decide on the way the input signal ought to be reduced on the basis of its frequency of that signal. This is a safe way of transmission in

The Ancient Art Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
The Ancient Art Analysis - Essay Example The Indra and Surya are engravings as depicted in this picture. Nonetheless, the two sculptures are a depiction of the final existence and the past lives the Buddhism founder, Siddhartha Gautama. The size of the sculptures is also similar as it ranges from 50 to 200 feet in height. The four-ram Fangzum is a bronze cast sculpture while the Reliquary Buddhist Stupa is cast in gold. The two sculptures have a great significance in the culture of the Chinese and the Indians respectively. These two sculptures depict the respect given to the dead, and especially to sages and religious teachers. However, there is a great difference in the age of their molding with the four-ram fan zun cast in the second Millennium BCE, during the era of the Shang dynasty with the Reliquary Buddhist Stupa cast in the 3rd century CE, which was during the Kushan dynasty. The two sculptures are also a symbol of commemorating significant occurrences in the Chinese and Indian religion. Hence, their main subject or significance is more of spiritual beliefs than political. Their complexity and evident in the way that the bronze is carved into the four-ram Fangzum and the way the pillars erect the Reliquary Buddhist Stupa. This artistic feature is a clear evidence of the prowess and the passion of Chinese and Ancient Indian sculptures of the time. The sculptures also have a gloss finish that clearly distinguishes them from the past sculptures that had a dull finish. The bowl is red and made of earth. The bowl also has designsà of a human head that areà blackà inà colorà andà imposingà fish designs. The bowl was made for worshiping the ancestors in Ancient China during the Neolithic Period, which was crucial in the Chinese history. Despite the non-development of the potterââ¬â¢s wheel during the time of making the bowl, the bowl is perfectly round with highly polished surfaces. In

Leadership Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1
Leadership - Essay Example ââ¬â and realize the important link between leadership and success/failure in the chosen path. Hence, I believe that training in the theoretical aspects of personal leadership development would enhance the chances of my success in post-academic life. I define success as a continuing phenomenon of setting goals and achieving them, with each succeeding goal being higher or nobler than the preceding one. Success is a relative term as well, in the sense that it is as much a feeling of self-satisfaction as the recognition that one gains in an organization or society at large. I place great importance on personal probity, teamwork, participation in peripheral fields of activities etc. as the means to achieve success and recognition. Ideally, I wish to work for any organization that reflects my personal beliefs in order that I contribute to it with full sense of participation, and grow along with it. This means that the (your last name) 2 organization must have a good track record of co rporate responsibility, well-respected by the society and enable its employees to blossom to their fullest capabilities. My profession as a retail manager should see me gaining hands-on experience in the initial years, followed by managing teams of juniors in three to five years time and ultimately setting up and running my own business unit in about 8 to 10 years after graduation. Assessing my leadership qualities Without assigning any priority, I consider the following self-assessment assignments as being very useful and revealing: Motivation to lead, Emotional intelligence, Participatory leadership attitude, Leader-member exchange, Self-confidence and Generalized self-efficacy. It is not that I have scored above average in my self-assessment exercises in these fields ââ¬â rather, the exercises revealed to me my strengths as well as weaknesses. Knowing oneââ¬â¢s weaknesses is the first step in learning ways to overcome them. My goals and aspirations as mentioned earlier wou ld demand that I learn to work in a team as a member, build a team and provide leadership to it in due course, handle difficult situations with a balanced approach, and be self-confident and efficient. These are the reasons for me to consider the six selected factors as the most helpful and relevant to my situation. Motivation to lead: I have scored â⬠¦ , taken as the average on the individual dimensions of this exercise like identity-based motivation, noncalculative-based motivation and social normative-based motivation. The exercise helped me to appreciate the vital link between my ambitions and the practical world of dealing with people and their own motivations. Individual scores reflect the gap between what it takes to be a good leader and my present state of (your last name) 3 preparedness to assume leadership role in the real world. My medium-term and long-term goals provide the motivation for me to lead. If I have to realize the aspiration of owning a business in the l ong-term and achieve a measure of success, I should be a good leader to motivate those working for me to contribute their best. Emotional intelligence: I have scored â⬠¦ , taken as the average on the individual dimensions of this exercise, comprising expression, thinking, knowledge and regulation. Having a different level of intelligence from team members, whether higher or lower, is immaterial so long as one can exercise intelligence with prudent emotion. I am certain to
